Leading an invasion of Oakland Athens Club tomorrow night, coach Gene Grattan of the Spartan wrestling team declared,
"My squad will be pitted against some of the best competition available on the Pacific Coast."
Henry Puckett (118) will be matched against Bob Ritchie, national champion for the last two years, who has yet
to be pinned while wrestling for the Athenians. Puckett defeated PAA champion Erich Diebels of the San Francisco
YMCA two weeks ago and should be a match for the national champion. Jack Fiebig meets an unknown, but will be sure
of competition as the Club has never presented a weak man in any division.
Again, Martin Olavarri will be wrestling at 135 pounds and declares he is in better condition than he has been
so far this year. Carlton Lindgren will receive the call over his three competitors for the 145-pound crown and
if true to form should make a bid creditable to any first year man. George Wenglein will be out to amend for the
defeat he suffered two weeks ago from the clever veteran Ed Brunetti of the San Francisco YMCA. Wenglein, in the
155-pound division, has proved a definite strength in his class, but is again to be matched against a veteran from
the Oakland club.
Mel Rush will represent the 165 pounders by reason of a hard won victory over teammate Ivan Nelson. Frank MacGuire
(175) will be matched against Harvey Horn who will bid fair to be a match against this slam bang but clever and
shifty first year man representing SJS. |
