The Spartan varsity wrestling squad is showing great promise of developing into a fine team in its daily workouts,
according to the coach, Bill Hubbard.
The mentor of the grunt and goan sport has a squad of 16 in training and all weights are well represented with
the exception of the 118-pound class.
An attractive schedule is in the making. The first meet of the season will be held here Feb. 6 against a team from
the Sunnyvale Air Base.
There is a possibility that the boxing and wrestling teams of SJS will meet the like squads from California on
the same card.
According to Hubbard, there are two men of exceptional ability in the persons of Arthur Philcott and Earl Glover.
However, the mentor is enthusiastic over the promise each member of the squad has displayed.
These are the other members of the mat fraternity working out under Hubbard's supervision: Joe Salamida, Peter
Enos, Ed Hillyer, Richard Lucky, Vern Stafford, Winfield Hart, Charles Peach, Bill Binkley, Jack Bowers, Arne Martinson,
Paul Peterson, Carl Nelson, Harold Goldstein, and Willard Haverly.
Coach Hubbard declares that he is still on the lookout for more talent. Anyone interested in the sport should get
in touch with him at once. |
