SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 1-28-38                  Olympic Grapplers Next On SJS Schedule            Here it is a full week away from his team's next match with the Olympic Club of San Francisco, but wrestling mentor Gene Grattan has already begun worrying. He'd just about give his right leg to defeat the Olympic matsters, something his gang has never done before, and as a consequence Grattan has been a regular slave driver with his forces. Grattan has been momentarily relieved from his worries by the return of Sam Della Maggiore, heavyweight star. Della Maggiore teamed with Johnny Jones last year to form a destructive duo, but an injury suffered during the 1937 campaign rendered Sam useless so far this season. Della Maggiore has been taking nightly workouts in the gym and assures Grattan that his injured knee has healed properly.
