  Wrestlers Remain Idle This Week

It looks very much as if Gene Grattan's wrestling artists will have to lay off their rough stuff this weekend. At present, there is no opponent in sight for Sparta's matmen and as a consequence, the boys must bide their time until February 4 when the SF Olympic Club tangles with State's troupers.

However, Grattan couldn't bear letting a week go by without at least displaying his gang before somebody. Last night he trundled his ace performers down to the local Elks Club where they demonstrated various holds and other wrestling techniques. Gene is still toying with the idea of matching the frosh with the varsity this week, but chances are his plans will not materialize. "However, we need plenty of practice before meeting the Olympic Club, as they are certain to give us stiff competition," asserts Grattan.

Much of Grattan's attention has been devoted to his freshman squad this week. The yearlings spent considerable time Monday and Tuesday in polishing up on their holds and developing proper balance in applying various grips. Gene is mighty proud of his first year crew after their classy showing against the Oakland Athens Club last week.

Meanwhile, the varsity grapplers go through their paces with customary zip and ginger. So far this season, no outstanding injuries have occurred to the varsity men and Grattan continues to keep his fingers crossed in order to prevent any jinx.
