SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 1-19-53                  Mumby's Mat Team Wins Junior PAAU           Spartan wrestlers retained their Junior PAAU championship Saturday at the Berkeley YMCA. It was the seventh consecutive year that SJS had won team honors. Coach Hugh Mumby's grapplers took four first places and five seconds in amassing 36 points, a total equal to that of all the other teams put together. Closest competitors were the Oakland YMCA 14, Olympic Club 6, San Francisco YMCA 6, and Stanford 5. Bill Schmidt, blind Spartan wrestler, was voted the tournament's outstanding wrestler. He won four matches and lost one in taking second place in the 157-pound class. SJS championship winners were Joe Tiago, Dan Gonsalves, Tom Fine, and Bob Roebuck.
