SJS Matmen To Grapple Tribe Squad

 
     
  Stanford's Indians invade San Jose State tonight to grapple coach Hugh Mumby's Spartans at 7:30 pm in the mat room of the Men's Gym.

SJS fell to a surprisingly strong San Diego State squad Friday night 15-9, while the Spartan frosh defeated Travis Air Force Base 27-12 earlier in the day.

The frosh journey to Travis for a repeat match tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

Mumby said yesterday he expects a tough battle from Stanford. He added that the 137-pound match between the Spartans' Bob Lopez and Stanford's Lee Stephenson should be the highlight of the meet.

Others competing for the Spartans will be Frank Paoni (130), Warren King (147), Cliff Olson (157), Fred Yrueta (167), Ron Ruscigno or Jack Proctor (177), and George Hewitt or Paul Hodgins (hwt).

Dave Armstrong will by forfeit in the 123-pound class.

Against San Diego, Lopez decisioned Dennis Payne 7-6, King decisioned Len Fierro 6-1, and Ruscigno decisioned Merrell Davis 11-8. Paoni, Olson, Proctor, and Hewitt dropped matches all by decision.

In frosh action, Roy Kusumoto, Dave Austin, Carl Dommeyer, Ismail Rodriguez, and Bob Young won matches for SJS.

Kusumoto pinned Gil Archuletta in the 123-pound action, Austin (130) pinned Art Swagler, Dommeyer (137) pinned Junior Aguon, Rodriguez (167) pinned John White, and Young won by forfeit.

SJS' Art Beatty drew with Ron Williams, and Jim Doyal was pinned by Travis' Bob Baker. The heavyweight match was forfeit to Travis.
