SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 1-16-53                   SJS Seeks PAAU Mat Win At Berkeley           Defending champion San Jose State College heads the teams entered in the Junior PAAU wrestling tournament tomorrow at the Berkeley YMCA. Coach Hugh Mumby expects tough competition form the team entrants of the Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco YMCAs and Stanford, Cal, and San Francisco State College. The Spartan grapplers open their 1953 dual meet season Tuesday night against Stanford in the Spartan Gym. The first match will begin at 8:00. Coach Hugh Mumby announced his squad for tomorrow's tournament as Al Bache, Lee Baxter, John Bergen, Richard Downey, Saul Estrad, Irv Faria, Tom Fine, Dick Francis, Ken Giles, Danny Gonsalves, Pete Herder, Herb Jackson, John Jagger, Joe Itasi, Dave Leslie, Dale Maynard, John Ratliff, Paul Reuter, Bob Roebuck, Charles Stingley, Joe Tiaco, Lloyd Vickert, Russ Whitman, and Ray Thomas. Coach Mumby's wrestlers won the PAAU novice tournament and scored an upset victory over the University of California in matches last quarter.
