All wrestlers that wrestled at the S.F.State tournament, except Andrew, if you still have your gear, make sure
you bring it this weekend, you will not be issued another set if you forget!
Several still have head gear from this season, if you are not going to Nationals, please turn them in.
......
If you have not paid for your trip to Nationals your fee is due this Sunday!
Remember: last year we took 5 wrestlers and several with out a lot of experience, so please do not underestimate
your potential, you will never know how good you are if you don't make the commitment to try!
The following are booked:
133 Brandon Homrighausen
141 Jose Pinal
149 Derek Chu
174 Charlie Galaviz
235 Derek Merrero
148 Erin Fierro
If we can get two or three more to commit we have a good shot of placing as a team.
I received the complete list of NCWA registered wrestlers today and San Jose State has the largest registered roster
in the Nation.
For the Women, none of the weight classes are over 8, so you are guarenteed All-American status.

No practice in the morning - Holiday (Presidents Day)
The mat room is reserved from 6:45am to 8:30am if anyone wants to go in and workout. Do not allow anyone on the
mats that is not registerded with the club. We have had too many injuries occur when I am not there, so do not
go live with any non-club members. We need to start stacking our mats one laid on top of two to take up less space,
there is a reason which I will discuss on Wednesday, if anyone goes in in the morning please stack them in that
manner. DO NOT DRAG the mats by the straps, we have already had two break because we can not carry the mat 20 feet.
Reminder Wednesday practice is now at 8:15pm to 10:30pm

******
NCWA College Nationals - March 11th to 16th - Hampton University - Virginia
The following are booked to attend
Brandon Homrighausen
Jose Pinal
Derek Merraro
If anyone else plans on attending your cost will be based on the cost of airfare on the day you confirm, the flights
have gone up and will continue to go up the closer we get to leaving
Based on the numbers confirmed from other schools attending conference and the fact that i set up the brackets,
SJSU has qualified an athlete in every weight except 125lbs
Those that do not qualify will be petitioned in, Idaho State does not plan on attending Nationals, so we would
pick up there spots if needed.
If we sent an athlete in 10 of the 11 weights we would have a good chance of winning Nationals. If we sent two
in each weight it would give us someone on each side of the bracket.
******
Scott is still working on getting some funding from SJSU and if it is received a refund would be given equally
to those that have already paid the travel fee.
******
For those of you planning on wrestling next season, Skyline and Sacramento City have already confirmed dual meets
and some of the tournaments we attended this year have started sending out invites.
******
Our Freestyle and Greco season will start on Wednesday night, March 25th, I am trying to set up a clinic for that
evening to go over the new rules and basic skills.
Besides the local tournaments I have one tournament scheduled for So.Cal, one in Reno and one in Vegas

CONFERENCE FINALS:
Sunday March 1st, 2009 Held at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill.
We need everyone to commit to wrestling at Conference Finals, regardless of your experience.
We need to fill all of he weight classes to beat the other schools that are coming, placement points are big when
you are forfeiting weight classes, right now we know we have at least four weight classes that still need to be
filled.
Everyone needs to come to at least one practice prior to February 15th to sign the Eligibility release form that
is turned into the University Registar for clearance. If you do not sign the release you can not participate in
Conference or Nationals and we need everyone.
We will leave SJSU at 6:00am on March 1st Weigh-in at 7:00am wrestle at 9:00am, Last year we were done by 1:30pm.
Please clear your schedule and support the program.
******
NATIONALS:
We leave for Virginia at 10:25am on March 11th and return at 7:15am on March 16th arriving San Jose at 2:55pm
We have already started booking flights: Booked Brandon Homrighausen Confirmed Jose Pinal & Erin Fierro
You need to get your travel fee in as soon as possible, flights will start going up the closer we get to leaving.
If we can get at least 8 people to attend, SJSU has a good chance of finishing in the top ten in the Nation.
You have all had the opportunity this year to wrestle a pretty solid schedule for very little cost to you. You
now need to commit to attend the National tournament to help keep your program going. You have been told the dates
and the cost all year, so at this point after five months of planning it should not be an issue. |

The team is leaving at 8:30am Friday morning for Oregon to compete in the Clackamas College Open.

West Valley will be traveling with our team.
******

attend.
New members must be registered by February 15th to be eligible to wrestle in the Conference Champiosnhips.

to be enrolled in at least 6 units this semester.

Our last college tournament before Conference will be January 31st at S.F. State.
The roster was submitted today: Brandon Honrighausen, Jose Pinal, Michael Bricker, Andrew Wong, Quan Cao, Charlie
Galaviz, Scott Kransky and Derek Marrero.
******
You need to submit your money before the end of the month to secure the $500.00 cost, after Feb 1st it may go up
based on airfare and availability.
The rooms and rental van has already been booked.
We currently have Brandon Homrighausen Booked and Erin Fierro confirmed she is attending
******
The team voted and we will try to move to South Campus after we return from Nationals.
Our freestyle, Greco and Grappling season will start about a week after Nationals. |

| January 12, 2009 |
We returned from the UVU Open in Utah early Sunday morning and the six wrestlers that went wrestled really well,
Charlie Galaviz finished top 8 at 174lbs. Both Weber State and Utah State wrestled in the tournament and they are
both expected to attend conference finals on March 1st.
******
We have practice on Wednesday at 9:00am, I need to know by the end of practice if any one is planning to go to
Oregon this weekend to wrestle in the Clakamas Open on Saturday. We will leave on Friday, January 16th in the morning
and return after the tournament on Saturday the 17th.
******
Also Wednesday is the deadline to sign up for S.F. State on January 31st. We currently have 8 wrestlers signed
up. Brandon Homrighausen and Jose Pinal at 141lb Michael Bricker & Andrew Wong at 149lbs Quan Coa & Charlie
Galaviz at 174lbs Scott Kransky at 197lbs and Derek Merrero at 285lbs.
I will not be able to attend the tournament due to a conflict with work. we will discuss the schedule for the tournament
next week at practice
******
Practice schedule for January: This Wednesday at 9:00am, Friday at 9:00am if we do not go to Oregon.
Next week the bldg is closed on Monday for a Holiday and Wednesday for training, we will practice on Friday January
23rd at 7:00am.
The following week everyone should be back in class and we will start our new practice schedule on Monday, January
26th. Mon-Wed-Fri at 7:00am and Wed Night at 8:00pm
START SHOWING UP
******
No college tournaments are sheduled for Febuary, but the Dave Schultz Invitation is on February 13th & 14th
at the OTC in Colorado Springs it would cost about $150.00 if anyone plans to attend, This is a freestyle and Greco
tournament.
******
You need to get in your fee for College Nationals by the end of the month to avoid the price going up.
Remember: you had the opportunity to apply for contengency fund money to pay for College Nationals and for the
second year in a row no one has been willing to submit a power point presentation and now we are past the deadline.
The $500.00 need to be in asap
Brandon is paid and Derek M. and Erin have money credited towards to fee but need to get the remainder turned in.
******
We have two opportunities the end of January to work to raise money towards Nationals or just to work and you can
use the money for what ever you want.
Both events are in San Francisco at Fort Mason, the first is on Tuesday, January 27th at 5:00pm and requires Black
slacks, white shirt and tie the other is on Saturday, January 31st at 7:00am for an all day wine fest.
The 31st is also the day of the S.F.State Open, which is why I cannot be at the tournament. If you are interested
in either event let me know as soon as possible.
******
This past weekend was the NWCA Association duals in Iowa that we were invited to, it is something that we need
to consider in the future if the team continues to grow. In the women's bracket Pacific only filled 3 weights and
Lindenwood and Jamestown only fill 5. No reason our women's team could not have competed in the duals, I am sure
the only difference from SJSU and the only teams is their wrestles actually attend practice! |
| |
| January 5, 2009 |
San Jose State had 5 wrestlers compete today at the Menlo Invitational against some of the top NAIA and NCAA Division
I & II teams in the area, Surprisingly our athletes wrestled fairly well considering we have been off for two
weeks during the holidays, I little sluggish and heavy feet but a good job overall. Derek Merraro and Jose Pinal
finished top 8 in their weight classes.
******
We start our winter practices in the morning at 9:00am in the Aerobics room and we need everyone to show up so
that we can start to get back in shape and get ready for Utah Valley this coming weekend, Clakamas C.C. on the
17th and San Francisco State on the 31st.
We need to maintain at least 8 wresters in our room to keep our time slot so make sure you start coming in, no
more excuses. If you have friends that want to come in and try it out feel free to bring them, we will not be requiring
the membership fee during the Winter Break.
******
The pratice schedule at Live Oak is back to Mon-Fri at 5:00pm. Live oak is about 25 minutes south of SJSU.
1505 East Main Street Morgan Hill, CA 95037
101 South, Exit East Dunne, turn Left over the highway (East)
first Left is Condit, first right is East Main, school in on the left across from the winery
******
If you plan to attend Utah Valley Open this weekend you need to confirm with me by the end of Wednesday's practice
so that I can submit a roster. More then one person can wrestle per weight class.
We will leave at 6:00am on Friday the 9th from SJSU and return after the tournament on Saturday.
Hopefully Some of the NCWA West Conference teams will be attending the tournament, Last year Weber State, Utah
State and Idaho State were in attendance.
So far we have:
Jose Pinal 141lbs
Scott Kransky 197lbs
Derek Merraro 285lbs
If you confirm by email also list your weight class.
******
We also need to confirm San Francisco State on the 31st by the end of Practice on Wednesday so I can send in the
entry fee. Last year we sent in the $400.00 and no one ended up going.
So far we have confirmed for S.F.State
Michael Bricker 141lbs
Jose Pinal 141lbs
Scott Kransky 197lbs
Derek Merraro 285lbs
******
The next Girls Tourament is The College Freestyle Nationals at Missouri Valley on January 31st $400.00
and then the Dave Schultz in Colorado in February which will cost about $200.00
******
Please get in your $500.00 for Nationals so that we can book the flights as soon as possible.
I was able to get flights last month for under $300.00 but they will continue to go up the closer we get.
Remember the $500.00 covers Airfare, Hotel Room, Van Rental, Gas, Tournament Entry Fee and if you need entertainment
I will sing to you!
Paid: Coach Redman, Brandon Homrighausen
******
If you have not sent me your academic year and major for the website please do asap
Currently I have Scott Kransky and Michael Bricker
******
I need to start getting an idea of who is planning to wrestle at the Conference Finals on Sunday, March 1st
and who is serious thinking about going this year to NCWA College Nationals March 11th-16th, if we can get most
of you to commit we should be a top 10 team this year.
please let me know asap, don't miss out on the opportunity and regret it later in life, All of you have the opportunty
to be College All-Conference wrestlers and all of you can qualify for Nationals and a chance to become College
All-Americans. Don't sell yourself short, commit, train, wrestle, No more excuses!
******
If you do not plan on practicing or competing in the second half of the season (Which starts in the Morning) please
let me know so that I can remove you from the email list.
see you at 9:00am |

| December 23, 2008 |
It looks like a lot has gone on over the past week, so I want to make sure that everyone is updated.
Tonight at 8:00 PM Coach Serrano will run our last practice before the break. If you are planning on heading home
for the holidays try to get into your high school practices to stay in shape. If you are staying in San Jose we
will have practice at Live Oak (which is only about 25 minutes from SJSU) Mon-Tue-Wed at 5:30pm and Fri-Sat at
9:00am, you are welcome to attend.
We did get a confirmation of a practice schedule for next semester:
January 5th to the 21st we will train at 9:00am to 12:00 noon Mon-Wed-Fri.
We have three tournaments during the break so it is important for you to show up.
Starting January 23rd we will train Mon-Wed-Fri at 7:00am (Mon-Wed until 8:30am & Fri until 10:00am)
Starting January 28th we will have Wednesday night in the Aerobics room 8:00pm until 10:30pm
We did not get Monday Night-If you want to add Tue or Thur in the Racquetball court at 8:00pm email with your choice
of day.
We also received our notice that we do not have a facility available for Conference Finals on March 1st, It will
be moved to Live Oak unless one of you can have a coach or A.D from a San Jose High School confirm availability
by the end of January.
We also recieved notification that we will not be allowed to return to Uchida Hall. The reason given was that YUH
202 (The old wrestling room) isn't available at the time requested. I would recommend that some of you that are
still on campus or in San Jose (Jose, Scott, Stevie and Coach Serrano) make an attempt to meet with Carol Bare
in Kinesiology as soon as possible and get a live response from her that we can submit to the University President.
It wouldn't hurt if you mention that several members are part of the Judo program as well. Maybe bring Rob.
Our next tournament is Sunday, January 4, at Menlo College Weigh-ins at 7:00am
I need you to email me before December 30th if you plan to attend and at what weight class. Also I will need to
know If you need me to pick you up at 6:00am at SJSU or if you plan to meet me there at 6:45am.
The last count we have: Brandon, Jose, Charlie, Derek M. and Scott but I still need to know what weights
College Nationals: We will be gone March 11th to the 16th, You need to pay for your flight asap ($500.00)
So far Brandon and I are the only ones booked.
The women's program: It is obviously from the lack of women showing up to practice or wanting to compete that there
is no need to schedule for any of the upcoming out of state tournaments. We will pick back up during the Freestyle
season if we have an interest. We have had three new women contact me about practice and competing and I have told
them that we do not have the commitment to run a women's program at this time and told them to check in after the
College Season.
I receive an email over the weekend from a female MMA fighter wanting to come in and work out, unfortunately I
deleted the email without responding. If any of you also received an email from her, I believe her name was Tara.
Please have her email me again or relay to her this email.
If you did not attend practice the night Joe came in to take individual pictures you will need to contact him to
get your photo done or send him a head shot for the Website.
I need to get from you your current academic year Fr, So, Jr, Sr, your major or undeclared and a List of what High
Schools and Colleges you attended prior to SJSU and any accomplishments you want listed on the website.
Again If you plan to wrestle at Menlo on January 4th I need you to contact me asap to confirm and confirm weight
class.
I will see the wrestlers on the 4th and the rest of you hopefully on the 5th

I know most of you are finishing up your finals before winter break, but we need everyone to show up Wednesday
night at 800pm for a quick meeting even if you do not stay and practice.
We need to confirm the tournament schedule for January so I can send in the entry fees and we need to confirm a
practice schedule for next semester as well as during the winter break.
If we do not submit a practice schedule by Thursday morning we will not receive any space in the event center.
The space request was supposed to be submitted in November.
If you do not attend you will have no say in the schedule.
Also I recommend if you plan to attend Nationals in March that you turn in your fee for the Airfare. All other
expenses are covered.
We are still missing team gear from two of the girls and we are missing three warmup jackets from the guys.
Please bring it in on Wednesday.
If you see anyone other team members on campus make sure they show up at 8:00pm
If you have any new members interested have them come in to fill out the paperwork. |

I realize most of you have not returned to campus yet and some of you do not live in the area, but we will start
our conditioning tonight in preparation for the start of the 2008-2009 season.
A few things will change from last season which we will dicuss at team orientations, which is the first change.
You will be required to attend a team meeting at 7:30pm on Monday or Wednesday night prior to being cleared to
workout in the mat room with the team.
At the meeting you will fill out your membership paperwork, turn in your copies of the the tower card, health insurance
and CDL or ID with auto insurance if you plan to drive to practices or tournaments. And pay your membership fees.
All returning Varsity team members (those that cleared and competed in conference finals in 07'-08') need to pay
$50.00 for their NCWA membership and their USA Club insurance.
All new members and non-varsity returners pay an addtional $50.00 club membership to assist with expenses.
