| The Spartan Wrestling Club is a member of the United States Wrestling Federation and the Amateur Athletic Union.
Coach T.J. Kerr formed the club in 1976 for his wrestlers, coaches, and area athletes to compete in freestyle and
Greco-Roman competition. The 1978-79 SWC schedule was extremely successful. Both Robert McDowell and Tihamer Toth-Fejel captured Great Plains titles while Marty Lockwood and Duane Harris were 5th, and Kevin Hejnal finished 7th. At the Midlands, Hejnal barely missed placing by taking a 7th/8th.McDowell was 3rd and Toth-Fejel, injured in the semi-finals and unable to continue, took a 6th. Lockwood and Danny Kida again placed in the National AUU Greco-Roman Championship by taking 2nd and 4th, respectively. John Middlestead wrestled over 60 freestyle matches during the Spring and finished the Club schedule by capturing the BAWA and SCVWA Championship titles at 136.5-pounds. Toth-Fejel climaxed his summer by being named as an alternate on the 1979 US World Games Team at 149.5-pounds. |
